These are primarily walking tours because vehicles are restricted from the narrow medieval streets of the historic center.We offer a 3 hour English speaking guide ,entry fees  and historic trolley ride , or taxis when needed. The short ride on a historic trolley is to reach the hilltops, and our tours follow a leisurely downhill route with places along the way to stop for views, restroom, or beverage breaks if needed. Your guide will be waiting for you in the hotel lobby or where needed, holding a sign with your name on it

Beyond the traffic congested streets downtown is Lisbon's oldest and most pedestrian friendly quarter. Discover the secrets beneath Castle S. Jorge from the Phoenicians and Romans to modern times. The Alfama is a labyrinth of narrow streets rich with stories of disasters, invaders, poets, musicians and artists. Plus, rewarding views of the city from spectacular terraces (Miradouros) along the way.

This downhill walk reveals major sights which includes the birthplace of S. Anotnio of Padua, walk past Fado taverns, markets and churches. The name Alfama comes from the Arabic Al-hamma, meaning springs or baths, due to the natural springs found in the area. During the Moorish invasion, Alfama was the center of Lisbon’s daily activities, and over the centuries it became a slum for poor fishermen. Today, this quaint quarter embraces its new affluent settlers along with the the old, where you will find stylish restaurants aside rustic cafes where the sounds of old trolley cars and local music can be heard radiating into the streets.
